Month: March 2014
Simple things today. Sitting and just being silly with house-mate and husband. Mostly bursting into the baby monkey song in random voices.
Here’s the video for those not in the loop.
Been saving these up, I didn’t really have much to say, and to be honest I wasn’t really at my happiest, but here goes. None of my own photos until today, just wasn’t up to taking them.
Ice-cream – 7th Happy day
I tried to get some lactofree icecream at my Tesco (I’m lactose intolerant) but they were out of stock so I gave Swedish Glace a try. I didn’t have much hope for it but was pleasantly surprised.
Running chickens – 8th Happy day
Visited a friend with a smallholding. Seeing her chickens run up the path made me happy. I had never seen a chicken run and the waddle just made me smile.
Statistics – 9th Happy day
Odd I know, and it wasn’t the stats itself that made me happy. Going over the appropriate use of decimal places when reporting data my husband was utterly confused as to the way I currently used them (generally reporting to 2 decimal places the whole way through even if that meant adding a 0 on the end). His exasperation made me very happy.
Accomplishment – 10th Happy day
Finally finished lifting all the concrete and gravel from the soon to be veg bed. Just need to dig up some of the soil, it’s heavy clay with gravel mixed in. Then we can fill it in with better soil and get planting 🙂 Quite a few trips to the tip with rubble in the future (the bags).
I may be a crazy cat lady but if I had more money I’d be a crazy horse woman too. My local riding school has an offer on at the moment for half price lessons so me and my house mate are going every other week. She is just starting to learn and I’ve been riding on and off for a while now. I love going riding. I love being on the horse, trying to work with it and get into balance with it. The exercise it gets me (yes it is exercise) and the chance to improve on skills that I’ve been working on for years. However it’s not just the riding I like but also the talking about it after. Going over with my house mate how the lesson was for both of us, how we looked to each other and how we can improve.
I struggled yesterday to pinpoint what made me happiest. In the end I thought that the happiest I felt the whole day was the 10min drive back home from riding where we talked over the lesson. Sometimes a good natter on a topic you love can really make your day. Unfortunately, I was driving so no photo but I think this one from the net gets across the message and makes me smile.
Not much of a day today but first meeting with supervisor since handing them two chapter drafts. Was very happy to receive the comment of ‘minor clerical edits’ from a supervisor. It was only a materials and methods chapter but still made me happy. Only one had read the second chapter, but he was very happy with it which made me happy as well. Little bit more work and I can send that first chapter back to them. 😀
As a certified crazy cat lady it was inevitable that one of my days it would be cats that made me happy. I woke up not so good this morning, but at the bottom of my bed was a deeply asleep ball of fur I call Toothless. Her fur is so deep and soft it’s just ‘ahhhh’. Laying next to her while she remained happily asleep and cuddled my hand was happiness. I did say I was a crazy cat lady.
I also watched an old cat video tonight that always makes me lol no matter what. That too was happiness. I highly recommend you watch this.
Not a great day today, but reading a chapter or two of my books made me happy. I recommend the author.
What made me happy today? A combination of strawberries and fire I think.
The hubby gathered up all the rubbish wood we had collected over the winter, including an old bush he cut down in the front garden and the old raspberry canes and burnt them. We’ll add the ash to the compost heap.
I sat by Sam tending the fire and separated alpine strawberry plants, the gas company had dug them up and not replanted them. The soil they were in was so clay heavy that they survived. I left them in the greenhouse to dry the soil a little and then separated the plants, potting them individually. We’ll see what survives and re-plant some through weedproof fabric and likely give some away as well. I have so far done about a third of our alpine strawberries but have run out of pots!
Why did it make me happy? The hubby has an affinity with fire, he loves tending it, has a special way with it. Seeing him with a fire just fills me with content and happiness. Being by a fire and smelling the woodsmoke is wonderful on it’s own, but when he tends it it is even better. That I was sitting next to him and doing a task that I had previously found daunting, preparing for what I hope will see us harvesting strawberries, making wine, desserts and jams, all from things we grew from seeds. That was a happy moment. Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of the fire, we had no phones with us, but I did get some of the strawbs.
