A new chapter begins

Posted on Updated on

It’s 5 o’clock in the morning and I’m waiting for Pip to be a little deeper asleep before I put her down.

We did it. We’re living on a smallholding!

The move was hellish. Packing with a 9/10 week old is nigh on impossible. My husband had to take more time off than we had hoped, I think Christmas time will be hard as virtually  no holiday left for him. There was lots of DIY to do to do to get the house presentable. Didn’t get it all done so he may be travelling back to do it.

Even with hubby’s extra time off he ended up not sleeping the night before and I slept very little. We were still packing boxes when the vans pulled up. Yep vans multiple as we have far too much stuff.

The drive down was exhausting, one baby, 3 cats  and a dozen fish tank inhabitants and a 5 and a half hour journey that took 8 hours. The delay was partly due to driving slower for all the occupants, partly stopping every two hours to take Pip out of her car seat and largely due to A1 overnight roadworks/diversions.

But we did it. Pulled up at the new house at 3 am with all occupants alive and well.

It’s pretty much been nonstop since then. Still surrounded by boxes, still cleaning to do, things to buy, repairs to do, so much work to do outside and to figure out how things work. But we’re here, on a smallholding, ready to change the way we live.

More updates soon, including a new blog dedicated to the smallholding, but right now Pip is ready to put down and there’s a few more hours of sleep I can get before it is all go again.

Perfect day

Posted on Updated on

I was over on Elefriends and someone posted asking what your perfect day would be. I wanted to be able to go back to my answer and thought I’d share it here:

I would wake up next to my husband without the dark clouds. The sun would be shining outside and my cats would be in the room. I’d get up shower and dress without hating my body. I’d have breakfast and I would clean the house. I’d go into the garden and mow the lawn, weed the veg patches, harvest fruit and veg and plant things. I’d do laundry and see it hanging out. I’d make some lunch for my husband and I. I would do some knitting and some reading, maybe bake something as well. I would go horse riding then come home and cook a fully home made dinner with food we have grown and raised. I’d curl up with homebrew and my husband and watch TV or a movie. Then we will go to bed. I’d feel happy, relaxed and loved. And all through the day there will have been no tears or uncontrolled emotions or intrusive thoughts. I would fall asleep easily and happily.

Cats! – 4th happy day

Posted on Updated on

As a certified crazy cat lady it was inevitable that one of my days it would be cats that made me happy. I woke up not so good this morning, but at the bottom of my bed was a deeply asleep ball of fur I call Toothless. Her fur is so deep and soft it’s just ‘ahhhh’. Laying next to her while she remained happily asleep and cuddled my hand was happiness. I did say I was a crazy cat lady.

I also watched an old cat video tonight that always makes me lol no matter what. That too was happiness. I highly recommend you watch this.
